If your world looks similar to my very sad porch plants right now, this is my way of sending some good ol' Florida sunshine your way.
You see, Florida in January is truly one of the most magical experiences. Except for the fact that for every "We're at the beach!" text I send and sunshiny picture I put on Instagram, I feel pangs of guilt. Florida Winter Guilt. And it makes me not want to enjoy anything because I can't share it.
So this morning to combat this guilt (which is at an all time high because it's so dang cold everywhere else in the country) I went on a walk. I didn't go far (we have a wild coyote loose in the neighborhood...yeah...) but still managed to capture some of the Florida Narnia surrounding The Foote Cottage.
Including heart shaped vines that are growing up the side of our house. I'm pretty much obsessed.
It's in the mid 70's here today so you can imagine my.... embarrassment.... when a neighbor came out into the alley and saw me crouched over a plant with my camera, wearing a tank top, yoga pants and flip flops (complete with post wake-up hair). When he asked what I was doing I awkwardly answered:
"A plant project for all my friends back home who have never seen greenery like this."
Not the purpose of this post friends, sorry for making you all (especially my Kansas peeps) sound like a bunch of hay-lovin', know-nothins'. My fault.
Besides the warm winter temperatures, I think my favorite part of living in Florida is that it is always green. There are always things growing and blooming-- life never stops! The greyish-taupe landscape of the Midwest began to wear on me as soon as the holidays wrapped up so I'm feeling really thankful to live in a technicolored wonderland now (even if it means the occasional lizard gets into the house).
If you're somewhere today that is so cold you dreaded even leaving the house [I remember that feeling!], I hope this post brought you some warmth. Your friends in Florida empathize for you, though our real question is....
Why haven't you come down to live the good life yet? :)
