Kauffman Foundation KC | Lauren & Karen | May 2013

Kansas City Kauffman Gardens (11 of 13)

When I moved back to Kansas City in June of 2010 one of my biggest concerns was that I wouldn't be able to meet other "young professionals". Little did I know that God had an amazing, new friendship waiting in the wings.

The fall following my return to KC presented the opportunity for J to direct a 10-minute play for a local theater. He came home from auditions and told me about a girl he thought he would cast as his lead. I didn't think about of her {sorry, LV}, until he cast me as the other female in the show and we had the opportunity to meet.

Lauren amazed me from the get-go. During our first read though I watched her bravely tackle her lines even though she'd never really done theater before! How many people do you know that say "I'd like to try _____ " and actually go for it? I don't know many but I learned throughout the rehearsal process that this describes Lauren's approach to life perfectly-- pray//listen//go.

Fast forward three years later and I'm thankful to say that Lauren is still a dear friend. She works in both the non-profit and ministry worlds and has a gift for connecting people//places//organizations to one another for the betterment of the individuals//programs. Seriously, she's awesome.

In addition to getting to know Lauren, I have had the opportunity to also spend time with her mom, Karen, an equally wonderful woman. These two have a powerhouse mother//daughter relationship that is christ centered and inspiring to those who have the opportunity to spend time with them.

Before I left Kansas City, I had the opportunity to spend an evening exploring the Kauffman Center with these two women. It was such an honor to capture their relationship and  seeing as they are both trained interior decorators, I'm sure the images will soon be beautifully displayed in their homes!

I'd been to the Kauffman Gardens before for photos and to the Foundation for conferences but hadn't ever explore the area around the Foundation. Let me tell you, I hit photo location gold at this space! Lakes//gardens//benches//forest pathways.... it had it all and we had a lot of fun exploring.

Side-note to people//location love:

Don't you love Lauren & Karen's outfits?

I loved their first combination which included a mix of solids and patterns in a beautiful summery/floral color palette followed by their second combination of bold patterns and a shared color palette. Take note-- this session rocked it when it came to appearance & dress!

Lauren & Karen,

Thank you for braving a new location with me! You are amazing women who inspire me and I'm so thankful I had the opportunity to make these images for you!

in His love,

Laura
