Illustrating Your Story

One of the things I love most about this job is that every day, every client, every image is completely unique. Gah- don’t you love that?! Not only does it reflect God’s perfect design in all of our lives, but it also provides a break from what can sort of feel like the mundane (albeit blessed) day-to-day of work, to-do lists, and big ideas that sometimes feel really far away. Here are a few common questions I chat with my clients about to help get your story outline created!

Q: Where will our session take place?

I am an on-location, natural light photographer which means that together we will pick the setting(s) that you love for your session backdrop. This year my favorite spots were in (yes IN) the ocean, the top of an observation deck in the middle of a dense Florida forest, and inside a canoe at sunset. Over the past two years I have traveled to make images in 8 different states. Whether we’re in your living room or on one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, it will be amazing!

Q: What should we wear?

THIS is one of my favorite parts (can you hear my excitement). I love how fashion and styling culminates with who you are/the story we’re telling and the space we’re telling it in. My couples typically wear two outfits during their session- one that you might wear on a dressy date night and one you might wear on a casual picnic. Think about the colors of your home and/or your wedding when you consider your color palette so that your images will coordinate well! Strong neutrals with a little bit of sparkle or bold color tends to be gorgeous and of course, steer clear of anything with a bold pattern or any kind of wording (I like girl’s who wear Abercrombie and Fitch… remember that crazy song circa ’01?! I digress).

I also highly recommend thinking about the “above and beyond” element of styling for a portrait session. Your look should be your best you—you with a touch of stage makeup and glam, ready for the spotlight. Perhaps you might consider renttherunway.com for the perfect dress, or hiring my preferred hair and makeup artist for her fabulous day-of services. We’ll talk about this and more when we set-up the details for your session!

Q: How will we receive our images?

I pay for professional print services through Smugmug.com and you will get a private gallery link sent directly to you. This link will allow you to order (they have the most gorgeous metallic finishes- gah!), download all, download individually, and share easily with friends and family. Portrait session images are delivered within 2-4 weeks and wedding images are delivered within 4-6 weeks!

Q: What’s your favorite thing to shoot?

Honestly, I really love to shoot an amazing story that has taken great care of the details listed above. A well-styled session in an amazing, outdoor location during the two hour window before the sun sets steals my heart every time. I guess you could say I’m rather simple in that way ☺

Q: Where can we meet to talk more?!

I have an unashamed sweet tooth and would love nothing more than to meet you over cookie cake or macaroons. Chocolate Pi and Mikey’s Bakery are two of my downtown Tampa favorites- let’s set a date!

The story we’ll tell together will no doubt be an amazing one. If you want to go and grab some desert please don’t hesitate to contact me!

Your portrait experience is special, it’s not something you do every day and it is uniquely yours. It’s why when people ask what I do that saying “photographer” it’s never enough. So I choose storyteller and illustrator. Because how he asked you matters to me. Because how long you’ve prayed for that sweet baby makes you holding them in your arms all the sweeter. Because you only get one moment to live in this story, the one that’s being written right now, and that makes me so privileged to capture it entirely, beautifully, graciously, and timelessly.

Upon meeting Laura for the first time she made me feel like I was the only person in the room and her attention and focus was on walking me through the process of planning a wedding. I was blown away by the intimacy and beauty of her images. When I hired Laura I got more than a photographer, I got a friend.

When I met J during our freshman year of high school, you can be sure I would have literally freaked out if someone told me how our life together would play out! It’s been a hard, fun, messy, incredible journey and that is the story I want to tell. Love and fairytales are great, but so is the reality of two people living an imperfectly beautiful life together.

Couples sessions are for engagements, anniversaries, back in the dress, and any other fabulous reason you have to celebrate. Who needs an excuse to dress up and snuggle up for the camera anyway?!  Sessions include-

  • A 1-2 hour on-location session
  • 2-3 styled looks
  • A professional gallery for ordering, sharing, high-resolution downloading, and printing
  • A Non-Commercial Print Release

I think something that speaks the most to the creative work that Laura produces is the way in which she runs her business. An experience with her is not just a photo shoot – it is a connection with someone that values the art and investment of capturing the beautiful and unparalleled moments that life offers us. Needless to say, we love our images.”
