Well, sister, the holiday season is officially here. You’ve been waiting for it all year, to add onto your memories with him and to hopefully make one that will change everything. You’re feeling anxious, romantic, and anticipatory at the thought of a sparkly ring being on your hand by the start of the new year. You’ve been talking about it, so you’re sure it’s coming, but he’s tight lipped and the details are unknown to you.
Like a detective, you’re trying to put some of the pieces together. When was the last time he saw your dad? Was there a time he could have snuck away for that oh so important conversation? And what about your best friend and the random questions she’s been asking?
It’s an exciting time and you’re on the edge of your seat.
Manicures weekly, just in case.
Afraid to go out without makeup on and your hair done, just in case.
Nervous about how you’ll respond when he asks. Will you cry? Be surprised? Scream “YES!”?
Dreams about the ring.. what it looks like, how it fits your hand like it’s always been there.
Sweet girl, let me tell you this. Life only delivers moments like the one you’re waiting for once, if that. There will never be a question asked that same way again, with quite the same anticipation. So, today I’m praying that you’ll do your best to soak it all in. The waiting, the happening and the life that awaits. We rush, we want to know, we perfect, we plan, and so often this takes us clear out of the moment and the experience itself.
Can I refer to one of my favorite Beatles songs?
let it be
You are blessed to have found lifelong love, one of the greatest gifts God can give, and I pray that you will steward it will. I pray that you would be in prayer and would invite others in to pray with you during this season. Transition is hard, but the Lord provides! Set your eyes upon Jesus rather than the things of this world now… it will make such a difference in your marriage later.
Hold on tight, sweet girl, because the ride of your life is only beginning. And trust me, as someone who thought I’d had the whole proposal figured out, your knees will still go weak when he drops down to ask you to spend the rest of your life with him.
Hold him close this holiday season, regardless of when it happens you’ll never have a year quite like this one again.
Be gentle, he’s nervous and trying to do it all right. We put a lot of pressure on our guys these days so strive for encouragement rather than expectation (one of the hardest things for me in my own marriage).
Enjoy the journey and know that vendors like me are here whenever you’re ready to chat. Don’t feel like you need to rush into planning and details and contracts– weddings can be planned in days, months or years but marriage will last the rest of your lifetime.
I hope we get to have a mocha date in the new year, sweet girl, so I can see the ring and hear you tell the story in-person. It’s my favorite part of the consultation process because you’re just giddy. Until then, know that I’m praying for you and for all of the 2015 brides God has and I hope will continue to bring across my path.
So excited for you!
