Halston | Summer 2012

It’s no secret that I seriously love spending time with seniors. One a daily basis I am either working with prospective high school students or first-year students at K-State. A bonus is when I have these 17-18 year olds in front of my camera for a session! I am so energized by this time of life and love learning about their hopes, dreams and aspirations. They are so alive and it’s simply contagious!

Halston was the first of my Class of 2013 captured in His image seniors. She is the daughter of a former colleague (and dear friend!) and I couldn’t wait for her session. After playing ‘calendar tag’, her session date was set for late July. I hadn’t met Halston in person but I knew when we had her session consultation call that she was going to be a ton of fun to work with. She talked me through all of her outfits and I responded with ideas for locations we could include in her session schedule– it was the fastest, happiest session planning chat I’ve ever had 🙂

And so, Halston packed her laundry basket {all captured in His image seniors are asked to pack a basket full of outfits, shoes, accessories, makeup etc. We turn my car into a luxurious dressing room and boom– session magic between the alleys of downtown Kansas City happens!}, and we loaded up to spend a warm summer evening exploring Southwest Boulevard.

Halston was beyond stunning in front of the camera. Her laughter was contagious and there was something so simple about her beauty. I’m sure she was also amused by my adventurous approach to her session– I get very excited, especially when I find a new multi-colored wall. She was a good sport and I think I even got her to fall in love a bit when I found a wall that matched one of her outfits perfectly.

The biggest surprise of her session came when she whipped out a rocker-t and threw on a pair of shredded jean shorts. Even though we had talked about this outfit on the phone, it was so awesome to see her transition from a feminine dress with pink accessories into a rocker outfit. Oh, and the red wall only made things more awesome 🙂

Other stops during her session included my favorite wall in Kansas City and the Kauffman Gardens. Her beautiful outfits kept coming and we soaked it in until we ran completely out of sunlight!

Seriously, this wall is literally crumbling and only stands a couple of feet off the ground as it is. Halston was a trooper and pretty much sat on the awesome downtown KC ground for this shot. Is she not stunning??

Halston, thank you for a fabulous session! I loved spending the evening with you and cannot wait to see where the next year takes you!

in His love,
