As the sun starts to set earlier and our homes (or mine at least!) start to transform into beacons of holiday happiness, I am reminded that fall is here whether the Florida temperatures reflect it or not! The last year as been huge for captured in His image just because of the work God has been doing in my heart. At the end of October we will celebrate F I V E years in business (say what?!) and this year by far has been the most transformative.
As I fight to get to the end of my master’s program (May!) while also working full-time in academia, there are a lot of days when I wonder why I’m even trying to do photography. At times, the enemy wins and I get caught up in all the things I simply can’t do because of time and resources and this is where things just get plain ugly. There is a difference between dreaming and flat out comparing and I’m thankful that God has been teaching me a lot about focusing on the first.
This summer, I had the privilege of shooting 12 sets of memories. If I were telling the truth, there were moments I was begging for ____________ (more, different, amazing– insert any word). This morning, however, I made myself take an hour to go back through each of the galleries from these sessions to focus on what was.
Celebrations of milestones.
Vision casting beyond my wildest imagination.
Florida sand (my favorite session addition).
Color & natural beauty.
and over 7,000 raw images of life!
This art is my art because I yearn for it and I get great satisfaction out of the entire process. I work at the talent and intentionally make time for my investment in it because these are the ingredients for a gift/strength to both emerge and sustain. What I’m learning, however, is that comparison and inadequacy really have no place and in fact, can mess this “recipe” up horribly!
“Today is your big moment. Moments, really. The life you’ve been waiting for is happening all around you. The scene unfolding right outside your window is worth more than the most beautiful painting, and the crackers and peanut butter that you’re having for lunch on the coffee table are as profound, in their own way, as the Last Supper. This is it. This is life in all its glory, swirling and unfolding around us, disguised as pedantic, pedestrian non-events. But pull off the mask and you will find your life, waiting to be made, chosen, woven, crafted.”- Shauna Niequest
